I figured I'd post this. It's a short video featuring sea worms (and other ocean-dwelling creatures) ripping through the corpse of a dead seal. I think the voiceover mentioned that these worms are almost 3 meters long---WOAH! Try to enjoy; personally, I found it disgusting!
Have a good day!

Before watching the video clip, I read the article about the feasting of the sea creatures on the seal's carcass. I was a bit afraid to watch the video because I just had eaten Ramen Noodles; an ironic, yet small mistake on my part. I do agree with you that the video was disgusting, particularly watching worms of 3 meters puncture holes into the seal’s carcass and fighting one another to enter. However, before the sea life began to feast, the introductory images displayed of all the sea animals at the bottom of the ocean were extremely beautiful. The sea stars, worms, sea urchins, etc. were really great to watch.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting was that in class, we have often discussed the worms and other small creatures breaking down dead bodies and how their act is the process of passing on life. This video clip acknowledges that this process is also done in the ocean by worms and other sea creatures. Although the process, for me at least, was frightening to watch, I thought of the similarities of the worms in the ground and those that were present in the ocean and appreciate their contrasting features.
Thanks for the link Keaton.
Yes, no problem. Now, if someone would just dump Victor's body into the Arctic Ocean, well, then he'd have no problem decomposing.
ReplyDeletethis absolutely blew my mind. worms....not only death underground...but underwater!!!! it's almost like a whole new level of death itself....
